Woman strangled by ‘husband’

LAHORE: A woman was strangled to death allegedly by her husband in Gujjarpura on Thursday.

Sidra, 25, of China Scheme was shifted to Mayo Hospital by her husband Bilal, a resident of Fazalpura. The woman was declared dead by the doctors who also alerted police. A police team reached the spot, recorded the statements of eyewitnesses and shifted the dead body to the morgue for autopsy.

Sub-Inspector Akbar Ali said the woman’s husband and mother-in-law in their statements claimed that she locked herself in the room and hanged herself with the electric fan to commit suicide. He said the family broke into the room and recovered her unconscious and took her to the hospital, where the doctors declared her dead on arrival.

He said they were alerted by the hospital administration and when they reached the spot, woman’s brother Imran Tariq also reached there. The SI quoting victim’s brother said his sister was strangled to death by her husband Bilal and mother-in-law Shaista and now they were declaring it a suicide.

The SI said they were waiting for the postmortem examination report to further investigate the matter.

The Gujjarpura police registered a murder case against victim’s husband and mother-in-law.
